Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma broke several records during India’s win against the Ireland team in the opening match of the 9th ICC T 20 World Cup, co-hosted by the United States of America(USA) and the West Indies cricket boards.
Rohit Sharma, also popularly called “Hitman” due to his ability to hit sixes, became the first cricketer in the world to hit 600 sixes in international cricket.
India defeated Ireland by 8 wickets to open their campaign in the World Cup. The match was played at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York, United States of America.
Batting first, the Ireland side was bundled out for 96 runs in 16 overs. Hardik Pandya took three wickets, while Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah took two wickets apiece.
Chasing the modest score of 96, India comfortably achieved the target in 12.2 overs, with Rohit Sharma scoring 52 runs. He had to leave the field retired, hurt. Jasprit Bumrah was declared man of the match for his magnificent bowling of 2 for 6 runs. With this win, Rohit Sharma surpassed many records.
Rohit Sharma scored 52 runs in 37 balls, hitting four fours and three sixes. He also became the first cricketer to hit six hundred sixes in international cricket.
