The 7th Asian Champions Trophy 2023 hockey tournament for men’s will be held in Chennai, Tamilnadu at the Mayor Radhakrishnan stadium from 3-12 August 2023. Chennai will host its first international hockey tournament after 2007 when it hosted the Asia Cup Hockey .
The mascot of the 7th Asian Champions Trophy 2023 hockey tournament for men’s is Bomman. Bomman is an Asian Elephant.
The 6th Asian Champions Trophy was last held in Dhaka, Bangladesh in 2021. It was won by South Korea by defeating Japan in the final. India defeated Pakistan to win the bronze medal.
Six countries -India, South Korea,China, Malaysia,Japan and Pakistan are participating in the 7th Asian Champions Trophy.
The Asian Champions Trophy 2023 hockey tournament will also help the Indian team prepare better for the forthcoming 19th Asian Games to be held in the Chinese city of Hangzhou in September-October 2023.
The Asian Champions Trophy for men’s is organised by the Asian Hockey Federation annually.
The first Asian Champions Trophy for men was held in Ordo,China in 2011 which was won by India defeating Pakistan.
India and Pakistan have won the Asian Champions Trophy twice. The Indian men’s hockey team was victorious in 2011 and 2016 and Pakistan became champions in 2012 and 2013. India and Pakistan shared the title in the 2018 edition held in Oman after the final was washed out due to heavy rain.
The Asian Hockey Federation was founded during the Asian Games in Tokyo, Japan in 1958.
India is the founding member of the Asian Hockey Federation and currently 31 countries of Asia are its members.
It is the governing body of international hockey in the Asian region.
