India's first multi-sports Beach Games “The Beach Games 2024” was held at the Blue Flag certified Ghoghla Beach in Diu. Madhya Pradesh emerged as the champion in these games. Madhya Pradesh topped the medal tally with a total of 18 medals including 7 gold.

Beach Games 2024 Venue of Different States:

  • Maharashtra won 14 medals including 3 gold. Whereas Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand and host Dadra, Nagar Haveli, Diu and Daman got 12 medals each. Assam won a total of 8 medals including 5 gold.

Lakshadweep wins gold in beach soccer:

  • Lakshadweep won the gold medal in beach soccer, a historic achievement for this ancient island region.
  • Lakshadweep's win not only adds to the diversity of medal winners but also showcases the inclusive and nationwide impact of Diu Beach Games-2024.

Athletes under the age of 21 participated:

  • The Games held from January 4-11 saw 1,404 athletes under the age of 21 from 28 states and union territories participate in a variety of sports.
  • India geographically has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. 12 beaches in India have been awarded the Blue Flag certification as the cleanest beaches in the world promoting sustainable tourism.
  • However, the beaches of many countries are not as visited as they should be. Therefore, the successful organisation of these games on Diu beach is good news.

First Beach Games 2024 Organized:

  • 'Beach Games 2024' was organised from 4 to 11 January 2024. Meanwhile, a total of eight sports were organized in the games.
  • The closing ceremony of the Beach Games 2024 was held at INS Khukri Memorial.
  • This year's edition in Diu showcased sports disciplines that are less prevalent in our country. These mainly include Volleyball, Beach Boxing, Beach Soccer, Beach Kabaddi, Tug of War, Sea Swimming, Malkhamb etc.
  • More than 1,200 participants from more than 20 states and union territories of the country participated in the event.
  • The seven-day-long event saw participants from different age groups compete in eight sports.
