Nationality

For the UPSC Assistant Professor Recruitment 2025, a candidate must be:

(a) A citizen of India, or
(b) A subject of Nepal or Bhutan, or
(c) A Tibetan refugee who arrived in India before 1 January 1962, intending to settle permanently, or
(d) A person of Indian origin who migrated from specified countries (Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, or Vietnam) with the intention of permanent settlement in India.

Note:- Candidates from categories (b), (c), and (d) must have an eligibility certificate issued by the Government of India. If required, they may be provisionally appointed until the certificate is obtained.

Candidates holding a Ph.D. in the relevant subject, awarded in compliance with UGC regulations (2009/2016), are exempt from the requirement of NET/SLET/SET.

For candidates who registered before July 11, 2009, the following conditions must be met:

• The PhD must have been awarded in regular mode.
• At least two external examiners must have evaluated the thesis.
• An open PhD viva voce must have been conducted.
• At least two research papers have been published, out of which one has been published in a refereed journal.
• The candidate should have presented at least two papers based on his/her PhD work in UGC/ICSSR/CSIR sponsored conferences/seminars.

A certification confirming these criteria must be issued by the Registrar/Dean (Academic Affairs).

Alternatively, candidates with a Ph.D. in the relevant subject from a recognized foreign university/institution are also exempt.
