Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar presented Sangeet Natak Akademi Amrit Awards to 84 artistes in New Delhi on September 16, 2023.
This special achievement award was given to those artists above 75 years of age from all over India, who have not yet received any national honour.
- Minister of State for Law and Justice (Independent Charge), Culture and Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal and Minister of State for Culture and External Affairs Meenakshi Lekhi were also present at the function organized on this occasion.
Sangeet Natak Akademi Amrit Award:
- Sangeet Natak Akademi Amrit Puraskar is a national honor given to outstanding artists as well as teachers and scholars in the field of Sangeet Natak performing arts.
- Sangeet Natak Akademi Amrit Puraskar is a national honor given to performing artists as well as teachers and scholars in the field of performing arts.
- Its recipients are selected by the General Council of the Academy, comprising eminent musicians, dancers, theater artists, scholars and nominees of the Government of India, State Governments and Union Territories.
- Under these awards, a cash amount of Rs 1 lakh is given along with copper plate and Angavastra.
Performing Arts Festival:
- This award ceremony will be followed by a performing arts festival including the recipients of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Amrit Award from 16 to 20 September 2023 at 6 pm every day at Meghdoot Complex, Sangeet Natak Akademi, 35, Firoz Shah Road, New Delhi.
Sangeet natak academy:
- First Chairman: Dr. P.V. Rajamannar
- Current President: Dr. Sandhya Purecha
- It is currently an autonomous body of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
- The implementation of its schemes and programs is fully financed by the government.
- The Academy establishes and maintains institutions and projects of national importance in the field of performing arts.
Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards:
- It is noteworthy that in the ceremony organized in New Delhi in February 2023, President Draupadi Murmu honored the famous folk singer of Chhattisgarh with the Padma Shri award and the Vice-Chancellor of Indira Kala Sangeet University, Khairagarh, Dr. Mokshada (Mamata) Chandrakar was honored with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award.
