On the 77th Independence Day, two beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana from Tripura were honored guests at Delhi's Red Fort on August 15, 2023.
Nantu Sutradhar and Ranbir Debbarma, from different areas of Tripura, were selected as special guests among 50 beneficiaries of the PM-Kisan Samman scheme, who joined nearly 1,700 invitees to hear Prime Minister Narendra Modi's national address.
The government's aim of involving people from diverse backgrounds in the celebrations, in alignment with their 'Jan Bhagidari' vision, was exemplified through this initiative.
The PM-Kisan Scheme was initiated on February 24, 2019, fully funded by the Indian government.
It's aimed at assisting small and marginal farmers financially for purchasing crop essentials, ensuring healthy yields and sustained farming practices, while protecting them from exploitative lenders.
Eligible farmer families receive a financial benefit of Rs 6,000 annually, directly deposited in three equal parts of Rs 2,000 every four months.
Initially intended for small and marginal landholders, the scheme now includes all landholding farmers.
As of July 27, the 14th installment of the PM-Kisan Yojana has been disbursed to farmers' accounts, benefiting around 8.5 crore recipients.
