Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the 19th instalment of the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme from Bhagalpur, Bihar on 24th February 2025. An amount of around Rs 21,500 crore was directly credited into the accounts of the over 9.7 crore beneficiary farmers across the country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on an official tour of three states -Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Assam from 23rd to 25th February 2025.

Highlights of PM Modi's Visit to Bihar 

The following are the main highlights of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Bihar.

  • The 19th instalment of the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme was released from Bhagalpur.

Centre of Excellence for Indigenous Breeds in Motihari

  • The Prime Minister inaugurated the Centre of Excellence for Indigenous Breeds in Motihari. It has been set up under the Rashtriya Gokul Mission. 
  • The centre will introduce the latest IVF technology, produce elite animals of indigenous breeds for further propagation, and train farmers and professionals in modern reproductive technology.

Milk Product Plant in Barauni

  • Inaugurated a Milk Product Plant in Barauni that is expected to benefit around 3 lakh milk producers in the region.

Formation of the 10,000th FPO in Khagaria 

During his visit to Bihar, the 10,000th Farmer Producer Organisation (FPO) was registered in the Khagaria district of Bihar, focusing on maize, banana, and paddy.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the central sector scheme - Formation and Promotion of 10,000 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) on 29 February 2020 at Chitrakoot, Madhya Pradesh.

The scheme aims to form FPOs of farmers based on the Produce Cluster Area and specialised commodity-based approaches. 

Target- formation of 10,000 FPOs by 2027-28.

Need for FPO 

  • The small, marginal and landless farmers are mainly the members of the FPO. 
  • Individually, these farmers are at a disadvantage in negotiating the price of their agricultural inputs or their produce.
  • By becoming members of the FPOs, they are in a better position to bargain for the price of agricultural inputs like seeds, fertilisers, equipment, etc., as well as for their agricultural produce like wheat maize.
  • The FPO is expected to boost farmer income by increasing their collective bargaining power.

About PM -Kisan Samman Nidhi ( PM-KISAN)

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi launched the PM-KISAN scheme on  24th February 2019 at Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh.

It aims to provide income support to eligible farmers across the country.

Feature of the scheme 

  • Rs 6,000 per year directly transferred into farmers' bank accounts.
  • Money is paid in three installments of Rs  2,000 every fourth month.
  • Regardless of land holding, all farmers are eligible under the scheme except for a few.

Administration of the Scheme 

  • The Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare administers the scheme.
