Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the Jhumoir Binandini 2025, organised at the Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati, Assam. Around 8000 performers participated in the traditional Jhumoir or Jhumar dance organised to mark the 200 years of tea industry in Assam.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on an official visit to Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Assam from 23-25th February 2025.
In the last leg of his visit, he visited Assam from Bihar. Prime Minister Modi participated in the Jhumoir Binandini 2025 event and inaugurated the Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Infrastructure Summit 2025 in Guwahati.
About the Jhumoir Dance Form
- The Jhumoir or Jhumar dance is a traditional folk dance of the tea tribes communities of Assam.
- Tea Tribes refers to the people of Orissa, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, and West Bengal who came to work and eventually settled in the tea gardens of Assam, established by the Britishers.
- They are not scheduled tribes but are classified as other backward classes (OBC) by the Assam government.
- These communities perform the Jhumoir dance during the tea harvesting season.
- Both men and women participate in the dance accompanied by traditional instruments like the Madal, Dhol, Taal and Flute.
- During the dance, the women wear colourful sarees while the men wear dhotis and kurtas.
Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Infrastructure Summit 2025
Prime Minister Narendra inaugurated the Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Infrastructure Summit 2025 in Guwahati, Assam, on 25th February 2025.
At the inaugural ceremony, many dignitaries like Lakshman Prasad Acharya, Governor of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister of Assam, Dr Manik Saha, Chief Minister of Tripura and Union Ministers Dr S Jaishankar,, Sarbananda Sonowal, Jyotiraditya Scindia and Pabitra Margherita were present.
About the Summit
- The two-day Investment Summit held on 25 &26th February aims to present Assam as a favourable investment destination to the global and Indian investors.
- The focus was on exhibiting the state’s industrial evolution, global trade partnerships, booming industries, and the vibrant MSME sector, featuring over 240 exhibitors.
- The first edition of the Advantage Assam Summit was held in 2018
