PM Modi conferred with Honorary Order of Freedom of Barbados Award

PM Modi conferred with Honorary Order of Freedom of Barbados Award Award and Honour 10 min read

The Government of Barbados conferred its prestigious Honorary Order of Freedom of Barbados Award to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 6th March 2025. 

The award was received by the Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles, Pabitra Margherita, on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a function in Bridgetown, the capital of Barbados.

Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles Pabitra Margherita is on a 9-day tour to Latin America and Caribbean countries. He was in Uruguay from 28 February - 2 March 2025, the Bahamas (2-4 March 2025), Barbados (4-6 March 2025), and Nicaragua (6-8 March 2025).

Honorary Order of Freedom of Barbados Award 

Prime Minister of Barbados Mia Amor Mottley announced the award for Prime Minister Narendra Modi during her meeting with Prime Minister Modi at the sidelines of the 2nd  India-CARICOM summit meeting. Georgetown, Guyana, hosted the 2nd India Caricom summit meeting on 20 November 2024.

Prime Minister Modi has been conferred with the award for his strategic leadership and valuable assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Incidentally, during the 2nd  India-CARICOM summit meeting, the government of the Dominican Republic conferred its highest award, the Dominica Award of Honour,” on Prime Minister Modi for his contribution in providing vaccines during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Foreign Visit of  Pabitra Margherita 

Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles Pabitra Margherita is on a 9-day tour to Latin America and Caribbean countries. He was in Uruguay from 28 February - 2 March 2025, the Bahamas from 2-4 March 2025, Barbados from 4-6 March 2025, and Nicaragua from 6-8 March 2025.

Uruguay 

  • Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles Pabitra Margherita represented the government of India in the swearing-in ceremony of Uruguay’s President Yamandu Orsi and Vice-President Corilina Cosse. 
  • Yamandu Orsi  was sworn in for a five-year term on 1st March 2025 at a ceremony in the Uruguayan Parliament in the capital city of Montevideo.

Bahamas 

  • His visit to Nassau, the capital of Bahamas, was a follow up visit on the discussion between Prime Minister Modi and Bahamas Prime Minister Philip Davis on the sidelines of the 2nd India- CARICOM summit.

Nicaragua 

  • He is the first external affairs minister of India to visit Nicaragua. 
  • He will hold ministerial-level talks with the Nicaraguan government, led by President Daniel Ortega, in Managua.

Since being sworn in as the Prime Minister of India in 2014, PM Modi has received various top-level State awards from foreign governments.

Order of Freedom of Barbados Award (Barbados) 2024

  • The award was received by Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles Pabitra Margherita on behalf of the Prime Minister from Barbados Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley on 6th March 2025.

The Order of Excellence (Guyana) 2024

  • Bestowed by Guyanese President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali to Prime Minister Modi on 19 November 2024 during his visit to Guyana. 
  • PM Modi is the fourth foreign leader to receive the award.

Dominica Award of Honour’(Dominican Republic)2024

  • President Sylvania Burton of Dominica conferred the award on Prime Minister Modi on 19 November 2024.
  • PM Modi is the second foreign leader after Queen Elizabeth of the United Kingdom (1969) to receive the award. 

Grand Commander of the Order of Niger (Nigeria) 2024

  • It is Nigeria’s second-highest award.
  • Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu gave this award to PM Modi on 18 November 2024 in the capital, Abuja.

Order of St. Andrew the Apostle (Russia) 2024

  • Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, conferred the award in July 2024 to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Moscow.

Order of the Druk Gyalpo (Bhutan) 2024

  • Given by Bhutanese  King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck to PM Modi in March 2024. 
  • He is the first foreign leader to receive the award. 

Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour(France) 2023

  • French President Emmanuel Macron conferred the award to Narendra Modi in July 2023 in Paris.

Order of Nile (Egypt) 2023

  • PM Modi received the award from Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah-Al-Sissi during his state visit to Egypt in June 2023.

Grand Companion of the Order of the Logohu (Papua New Guinea) 2023

  • The governor-general of Papua New Guinea, Bob Dadea, conferred the award on Prime Minister Modi in May 2023.

Companion of the Order of Fiji (Fiji) 2023

  •  Sitiveni Rabuka, the Fijian Prime Minister, gave the award to Narendra Modi in May 2023.

Grand Cross of the Order of Honour(Greece) 2023

  • President Katerina N. Sakellaropoulou of Greece conferred the award to PM Modi during his visit to Greece in August 2023

Legion of Merit, Degree Chief Commander(United States of America) 2020

  • It is a prestigious award conferred by the President of the United States, typically upon Heads of State or Heads of Government of other countries.
  • The award was received on behalf of the Prime Minister by the Ambassador of India to the United States, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, in December 2020.

Rule of Nishan Izzuddeen (Maldives) 2019

  • Ibrahim Solih, the then Maldivian President, conferred the award to Narendra Modi in June 2019.

Order of Zayed Award (United Arab Emirates) 2019

  • In August 2019, Narendra Modi received the award from Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

King Hamad Order of the Renaissance (Bahrain) 2019

  • In August 2019, Narendra Modi received an award from Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Salman Al Khalifa.

Grand Collar of the State of Palestine Award (2018)

  • PM Modi received the award from Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in February 2018.
  •  Narendra Modi is the only Indian Prime Minister to visit Palestine.

State Order of the Ghazi Amir Amanullah Khan Award (Afghanistan 2016)

  • PM Modi received the award from Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani in June 2016.

King Abdulaziz Shah(Saudi Arabia) 2016

  • King Salman bin Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia conferred the award to Prime Minister Modi in April 2016.
