Indian Railways has given the green light to a new 38.21 km rail line connecting Mukutban (Adilabad) and Gadchandur under South Central Railway. Approved at a cost of ₹493 crore, the project aims to strengthen regional connectivity and speed up both passenger and freight movement across Maharashtra's industrial belt.
By linking Mukutban and Gadchandur directly, the project makes freight movement out of the coal, cement, and limestone belt far smoother, cutting down on delays for industries that depend on rail transport.
This new corridor trims travel distance, time, and cost, while also easing pressure on the already busy Wardha–Manikgarh section. Once operational, it's expected to handle 6.08 MTPA of freight, along with two MEMU trains running each way daily, carrying goods like coal, cement, sponge iron, steel, fertilisers, and foodgrains.
The line connects the coal-cement cluster straight to the Majri-Nanded route, shortening delivery paths toward Jalna, Parbhani, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and destinations across Maharashtra and Karnataka.
It also takes some load off the heavily congested Balharshah-Nagpur High-Density Network, while bringing better rail access to the relatively underserved Yavatmal and Chandrapur districts.
Overall, the project adds fresh capacity to the region's rail network, supporting industrial growth and giving both freight and passenger traffic more room to expand in the years ahead.
