National Sports Development Fund (NSDF), Sports Authority of India (SAI), and Indian Oil Corporation have announced a strategic partnership to strengthen India’s boxing ecosystem. This structured programme focuses on talent identification, athlete development, and modern sports infrastructure across the country. Under the agreement, Indian Oil will invest ₹40 crore over two years under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
This collaborative effort aims to build a comprehensive development pathway for both emerging and elite boxers, boosting India’s long-term competitiveness on the international stage.
Highlighting the pivotal role of Corporate Social Responsibility in advancing Indian athletics, Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya commended the initiative. He linked the partnership to the revamped Khelo India Scheme, approved by the Union Cabinet under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Dr. Mandaviya emphasized that the government is actively deepening collaborations with corporate partners under the updated scheme. Sustainable, CSR-backed partnerships are crucial to constructing a self-reliant and competitive national sports ecosystem.
The partnership comes following the Department of Public Enterprises' inclusion of sports as a dedicated thematic area under its Common CSR Theme Framework—a policy move designed to encourage corporate organizations to contribute systematically to athlete welfare and facility upgrades.
Indian Oil’s ₹40 crore investment over two years will target critical areas within the boxing development pathway. Key focus areas include:
Dr. Mandaviya stressed that corporate involvement during grassroots and intermediate stages creates a resilient foundation, transforming grassroots potential into podium finishes.
This partnership combines the core strengths of three key organizations:
By leveraging these combined resources, Indian boxers will receive world-class coaching, scientific performance assessments, and access to state-of-the-art facilities.
This strategic initiative arrives at a pivotal moment for Indian sports. Following an impressive showcase at the Asian Games 2026, where Indian boxers secured six medals (three gold and three bronze), the objective is to sustain this momentum. Sustained investment in specialized facilities and elite training will ensure young contenders transition seamlessly into world champions ahead of upcoming global tournaments.
The MoU signing ceremony was attended by senior dignitaries, including Secretary (Sports) Hari Ranjan Rao, Boxing Federation of India President Ajay Singh, and Indian Oil Director (HR) Rashmi Govil.
Established in 1998 under the Charitable Endowments Act, 1890, the National Sports Development Fund (NSDF) was created by the Government of India to mobilize public and corporate support for athletic development. NSDF finances initiatives across sports infrastructure, specialized coaching, elite academies, equipment procurement, and international exposure trips.
The NSDF–SAI–Indian Oil partnership highlights the impact of corporate contribution in establishing long-term, high-impact athletic development models.
