World Food Day 2026 will be observed on October 16, 2026. It is organised every year by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations to raise awareness about hunger, poverty, and malnutrition.
The theme for 2026 is “Innovate today, nourish tomorrow.”
The date marks the founding of the FAO in 1945. The day was started to draw attention to hunger and to make food security a shared goal for all countries.
Over the years, the day has grown into a worldwide movement. It is now recognised in more than 150 countries, where governments, communities and individuals work together on solutions to hunger.
The world already produces enough food to feed everyone, yet about 645 million people face hunger, and 2.69 billion cannot afford a healthy diet. Conflict, economic instability, and climate shocks are adding pressure on food systems. The day reminds us that access to safe and nutritious food is a basic right. It also celebrates progress in agriculture, nutrition, and global cooperation.
