Indian Para Cyclists Secure 12 Medals at UCI Parasport Denmark Grand Prix
Updated: 12 Aug 2026
2 Min Read

Indian para-cyclists put in a strong showing at the UCI Para Cycling Track event in Odense, Denmark, bringing home 12 medals overall: two gold, five silver, and five bronze across a range of track cycling disciplines. The three-day event began on 7 August 2026 and ended on 10 August 2026.
Paralympian Arshad Shaikh led India's medal tally, winning six medals on his own — two gold, three silver, and one bronze — across different track events in the MC2 category. His consistency across multiple events made him the standout performer of the meet, and his results reflect the steady progress India has made in men's para track cycling at the international level.
Just 17 years old, Vishwa Vasani added four bronze medals to India's tally, competing in the 1km Individual Time Trial, Scratch Race, 200m Sprint, and Elimination Race — all within the WC3 category. Her performance across such a varied set of events shows real versatility for someone this early in her career.
At 16, Anshuman Dhumal was one of the youngest athletes in India's contingent, and he still won two silver medals in the elimination race. This format tests not just speed but also endurance and race strategy, since riders are progressively eliminated as the race goes on.
Athletes are grouped into sport classes based on the nature and extent of their impairment categories; for example, MC2 (men) and WC3 (women) are part of this UCI classification system used across both track and road events. Track events themselves take place on velodromes and include fixed-distance races, timed trials, and head-to-head formats. The 200m sprint is a short-timed race, while pursuit and elimination races test a mix of speed, stamina, and tactics.
