Vice President of India C. P. Radhakrishnan inaugurated the 'National Organ Transplant Games 2026' at Talkatora Stadium in New Delhi on November 1, 2026. This event celebrates the courage of individuals who have undergone organ transplants and promotes public awareness regarding organ donation across the country.
Addressing the gathering, the Vice-President praised the Renal Care Foundation, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, and the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO) for organizing the event. He termed organ donation a ‘Mahadaan’—a noble act of giving that carries hope forward even after the loss of a loved one.
The Vice-President linked organ donation to India's deep-rooted culture of selfless service. He highlighted the ancient sacrifice of Maharshi Dadhichi, who gave up his life for the greater good, to illustrate how modern organ donors save lives today.
He also acknowledged Prime Minister Narendra Modi's efforts to highlight organ donation through his Mann Ki Baat radio broadcasts. Additionally, he emphasized a crucial health fact: a single deceased donor can save up to eight lives. He urged families to discuss organ donation openly, clear up misconceptions, and support timely decisions.
The National Organ Transplant Games showcased the power of life-saving medicine through athletic events, inspiring matches, and world-record participation:
Organ donation awareness can help more patients access life-saving transplants. However, myths and a lack of information can prevent people from making informed decisions.
The National Organ Transplant Games provide a platform to address these challenges. They connect donors, recipients, families and healthcare professionals.
The Vice-President urged citizens to make organ donation a powerful expression of humanity. He called for a society where more patients receive transplants and fewer people lose their lives while waiting for organs.
