The Department of Posts released a special souvenir sheet featuring two commemorative postage stamps dedicated to breast cancer awareness on October 30, 2026. Director General of Postal Services Ms. Manisha Sinha hosted the launch ceremony at Dak Bhawan in New Delhi.
This release uses philately the study and collection of postage stamps to deliver critical public health messages across communities and promote preventive healthcare.
During the ceremony, Ms. Manisha Sinha emphasized that postage stamps cross geographic boundaries to highlight national health priorities. She urged families to support women by encouraging regular health checkups, early detection, and timely medical advice. Additionally, she noted the emotional power of handwritten postcards, which allow loved ones to send comforting words to women undergoing cancer treatment.
Ms. Punya Salila Srivastava praised the postal department for championing women's health. She highlighted that the central government prioritizes preventive care by offering routine screenings for breast, oral, and cervical cancers across nationwide health centers.
Breast cancer remains the most diagnosed cancer among women in India, with the country recording roughly two lakh new cases every year. To tackle this challenge, the government provides early screening services under the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases.
Healthcare workers conduct initial screenings at local Ayushman Arogya Mandirs and community health centers. When doctors detect potential warning signs, they refer patients directly to district and tertiary hospitals for advanced diagnostic tests and specialized treatment. Detecting cancer early allows doctors to treat it before it reaches advanced stages.
To expand its health drive, the Department of Posts partnered with Fortis Hospital to conduct hands-on medical workshops at Dak Bhawan. Medical experts led interactive sessions on preventing breast and cervical cancers. Participants also received practical training in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) to learn life-saving emergency skills.
Citizens and stamp collectors can buy the special souvenir sheet directly from Philately Bureaus across India. The Department of Posts has also made the set available online through the official e-Post Office portal.
By merging daily mail communication with health awareness, the initiative reminds families nationwide that early detection saves lives.
