Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla Gets Another One Year Extension

According to a notification issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPt) on 4 August 2023 ,the central government has extended the tenure of the Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla by one more year. Now Ajay Bhalla will remain in office till 22nd August 2024.
The Appointment Committee of the Cabinet in a meeting held on 4 August 2023 ,approved the extension of Ajay Bhalla tenure for one year.
Ajay Kumar Bhalla who is a 1984 batch Indian Administrative Services (IAS) of Assam-Meghalaya cadre, was appointed as the Union home secretary in August 2019.
In November 2020 he was given one year extension till August 2021 and again another one year extension in 2021. He was set to retire on 22 August 2023.
During his tenure as home secretary, key legislations such as the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir were passed.
The appointment Committee of the Union Cabinet consists of two members . Prime Minister of India and the Union Minister for Home Affairs.
The committee is always chaired by the Prime Minister .
