The first gold medal for India at the 19th Asian Games being held at Hangzhou, China came courtesy Men's 10m Air Rifle shooting team of Divyansh Panwar, Rudrankksh Patil and Aishwary Pratap.
The trio not only won the first gold medal for India but also set a new world record by scoring 1893.7 points . They broke the record set by China in August this year.
First Gold in Cricket (Update)
Continuing the gold rush, the Indian women cricket team on the third day(25 September 2023 ) of the Asian Games won India's second the gold medal by beating the Sri lankan team in the final played at the Pingfeng Cricket Field in Hangzhou.
This was the first ever gold for India in Cricket in Asian games. In the Hangzhou Asian Games , cricket is being played in the T20 format.
The Indian team was led by Harmanpreet Kaur. This was also Harmanpreet Kaur ‘s 100th game as T20 captain . The bronze medal was won by Bangladesh.
Earlier on day 1 of the games ,the women's shooting team of Ramita, Mehuli Ghosh and Ashi Chouksey won the first medal at the Hangzhou Asian Games for India. They won a silver medal in the women's 10m air rifle event .
India has sent a strong 665 member team to the Hangzhou games. The Indian team will participate in 41 out of 61 disciplines. For the first time, Indian men's and women's cricket teams will participate in the Asian Games.
At the end of the second day of the Asian games ,India was at the 6th place with 10 medals . So far India has won 1 gold, 3 silvers and 6 bronze medals . Currently India is at the 6th place.
China continues to lead the medal tally with 45 medals - 28 gold ,11 silver and 5 bronze medals.
South Korea is in second place with 18 medals, followed by Japan, Uzbekistan and Hong Kong China.
The 19th Asian Games officially started on 23rd September 2023 and will end on 8th October 2023.
