India opened its medal account in the 19th Asian Games with the women's shooting team of Ramita, Mehuli Ghosh and Ashi Chouksey winning a silver medal in the women's 10m air rifle event on day 1 of the event.

The 19th Asian Games, held in Hangzhou, China, officially started on 23rd September 2023 and will end on 8th October 2023.

During the last Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia, India won a record 70 medals. It included 16 golds,23 silver and 31 bronze medals.

  • The second medal for India came from the army men Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind. They also won a silver medal in men's lightweight double sculls.
  • The third silver medal was won by the Men's eight team in the rowing event.
  • Indian pair of Babu Lal Yadav and Lekh Ram won a bronze in the Men's pair rowing event.
  • The final medal of the day came from Ramita, who won the bronze medal in the 10m air rifle.  
  • India finished the first day with five medals, three silver and 2 bronze.

China dominance continues

China has consistently topped the medal tally in the Asian Games since the 1982 New Delhi Asian Games.

The first gold medal of the Hangzhou Asian Games was won by Zhou Jiaqi and Qiu Xinping of China in the women's lightweight double sculls.

At the 18th Jakarta Asian Games 2018, China won 289 medals with 132 golds, 92 silver and 65 bronze.
