List of Foreign Government’s State Honour Received by PM Narendra Modi Award and Honour 9 min read

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was recently honoured with Cyprus's highest civilian state honour, the Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III. This latest honour was the latest in a long list of State awards and honours conferred on Narendra Modi since he became the Prime Minister of India in 2014. 

State awards mean the awards/honours instituted by a government.

As Prime Minister of India, he has the distinction of receiving the highest number of foreign government State awards.

In addition to the State award, Narendra Modi has received awards and honours from various private foundations. 

Following is the list of state awards Narendra Modi has received (June 2025)

Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III (Cyprus) 2025

  • Cyprus President Nicos Christodoulides conferred the award on Prime Minister Modi on 15th June 2025 in Nicosia, Cyprus. 
  • It is the highest civilian award of the Cyprus government.
  • First Indian to get the award.

Mitra Vibhushana Award (Sri Lanka) 2025

  • Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake conferred on Prime Minister Modi on 5th April in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
  • First Indian to get the award.

The Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean (Mauritius) 2025

  • Conferred by the President, Dharambeer Gokhool of Mauritius to Prime Minister Modi on 12th March 2025 in Port Louis, Mauritius.
  • First Indian and 5th Foreign leader to get the award.

Order of Freedom of Barbados Award (Barbados) 2024

  • The award was received by Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles Pabitra Margherita, on behalf of the Prime Minister, from Barbados Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley in Bridgetown on 6th March 2025.

The Order of Excellence (Guyana) 2024

  • Bestowed by Guyanese President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali to Prime Minister Modi on 19 November 2024 during his visit to Guyana. 
  • PM Modi is the fourth foreign leader to receive the award.

Dominica Award of Honour’(Dominican Republic) 2024

  • President Sylvania Burton of Dominica conferred the award on Prime Minister Modi on 20 November 2024.
  • PM Modi is the second foreign leader to receive the award after Queen Elizabeth of the United Kingdom (1969). 
  • The award was conferred on Prime Minister Modi during the second CARICOM-India Summit meeting held in Georgetown, Guyana, on November 20, 2024.

Grand Commander of the Order of Niger (Nigeria) 2024

  • It is Nigeria’s second-highest award.
  • Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu gave this award to PM Modi on 18 November 2024 in the capital, Abuja.

Order of the Druk Gyalpo (Bhutan) 2024

  • Given by Bhutanese  King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck to PM Modi on 22 March 2024. 
  • He is the first foreign leader to receive the award. 

Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour(France) 2023

  • French President Emmanuel Macron conferred the award to Narendra Modi on 23 July 2023 in Paris.
  • It is France's highest civilian Honour.

Order of the Nile (Egypt) 2023

  • PM Modi received the award from Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah Al-Sissi during his state visit to Egypt on 25 June 2023.
  • It is Egypt’s highest civilian Honour.

Grand Companion of the Order of the Logohu (Papua New Guinea) 2023

  • The governor-general of Papua New Guinea, Bob Dadea, conferred the award on Prime Minister Modi on 22 May 2023.
  • It is the country’s highest civilian award.

Companion of the Order of Fiji (Fiji) 2023

  •  Sitiveni Rabuka, the Fijian Prime Minister, gave the award to Narendra Modi on 22 May 2023.
  • It is the country’s highest civilian award.

Grand Cross of the Order of Honour(Greece) 2023

  • Greece's President Katerina N. Sakellaropoulou conferred the award on PM Modi during his visit to Greece on 25 August 2023.
  • It is Greece's second-highest civilian award.

Legion of Merit, Degree Chief Commander(United States of America) 2020

  • It is a prestigious award conferred by the President of the United States, typically upon Heads of State or Heads of Government of other countries.
  • The award was received on 21 December 2020 by the Ambassador of India to the United States, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, on behalf of the Prime Minister.

Rule of Nishan Izzuddeen (Maldives) 2019

  • Ibrahim Solih, the then-Maldivian President, conferred the award to Narendra Modi on 8 June 2019.
  • It is the country’s highest civilian award.

Order of St. Andrew the Apostle (Russia) 2019

  • Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, conferred the award on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in July 2024 in Moscow.
  • The award was announced in 2019.
  • It is Russia’s highest civilian award.

King Hamad Order of the Renaissance (Bahrain) 2019

  • King Hamad bin Isa Salman Al Khalifa of Bahrain conferred the award on Prime Minister Modi on 24 August 2019.

Order of Zayed Award (United Arab Emirates) 2019

  • Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan conferred the Order of Zayed Award to Prime Minister Modi on 24 August 2019.
  • It is the UAE's highest civilian award.

UN Champion of the Earth Award (United Nations) 2018 

  • It is the highest Environmental Honour given by the United Nations.
  • It was conferred on Prime Minister Narendra Modi by the United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, in New Delhi on 3 October 2018.

Grand Collar of the State of Palestine Award (2018)

  • PM Modi received the award from Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on 10 February 2018.
  •  Narendra Modi is the only Indian Prime Minister to visit Palestine

State Order of the Ghazi Amir Amanullah Khan Award (Afghanistan 2016)

  • PM Modi received the award from Afghanistan’s President Ashraf Ghani on 4 June 2016.

King Abdulaziz Shah(Saudi Arabia) 2016

  • King Salman bin Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia conferred the award to Prime Minister Modi on 3 April 2016 in Riyadh.
  • It is Saudi Arabia’s highest civilian award.
