India to Host the 2026 World Archery Para Series in Ahmedabad

India will host the Hyundai World Archery Para Series (WAPS) for the very first time, welcoming over 100 para-athletes from 20 countries to the Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad from September 5 to 9, 2026. Organised by the Archery Association of India, with support from the Gujarat government, SAI, and the Sports Authority of Gujarat, the five-day event will feature competition in the Recurve Open, Compound Open, W1, and Visually Impaired categories.

Stages and Schedule of the 2026 World Archery Para Series

This is the inaugural edition of the WAPS circuit, spread across three global stages:

• Stage 1 (Bangkok, Thailand): March 30 – April 4, 2026
• Stage 2 (Nové Město nad Metují, Czechia): June 28 – July 4, 2026
• Stage 3 (Ahmedabad, India): September 5 – 9, 2026

2026 World Archery Para Series Opening Ceremony, Themed "Every Arrow Tells a Story of Courage"

1. The tournament will be formally inaugurated on September 4, 2026, at The Forum – Hotel & Convention near Club O7, Shela, Ahmedabad. 
2. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Deputy CM Harsh Sanghavi are expected to attend the ceremony. 

Built around the theme "Every arrow tells a story of courage," the opening event aims to honour the resilience and sporting spirit of para-athletes while spotlighting Gujarat's rise as a hub for international sporting events. Star Indian archers set to compete include Paralympic champion Harvinder Singh, World Champion Sheetal Devi, Arjuna Awardee Rakesh Kumar, and Paralympian Shyam Sunder Swami. Officials also noted that this event adds momentum to India's archery calendar, with the Asia Cup Archery tournament lined up for 2027.
