First ever Hindi language radio broadcast in Kuwait

In a historic move, Kuwaiti radio will broadcast programmes in Hindi every Sunday from 8:30 to 9:00 P.M. starting 21 April 2024. The Hindi programme is being broadcast on FM 93.3 and AM 96.3. The Kuwaiti Radio move was deeply appreciated by the Indian Embassy in Kuwait.
The Indian embassy, in a post, said that the Hindi broadcast by the Kuwaiti radio will foster cultural exchange and strengthen ties between the two nations.
It also appreciated the Kuwaiti Ministry of Information for its commitment to promoting cultural diversity and enhancing bilateral relations through this initiative.
According to the External Affairs Ministry, there are around 9 lakh Indians working and living in Kuwait. Indian communities are the largest expatriate community in Kuwait.
The Indian expatriate community are present in all segments of Kuwaiti society and are considered as disciplined, hard working, and law-abiding.
India established diplomatic relations with Kuwait in 1962 after Kuwait gained Independence from Britain in 1961. Until 1961, the Indian Rupee was the legal tender in Kuwait.
Kuwait is an oil-rich country and a reliable supplier of crude petroleum oil and LPG to India. Indian professionals like doctors, engineers, scientists, chartered accountants, etc as well as unskilled and semi-skilled workers, are present in Kuwait.
10 January is celebrated as World Hindi Diwas.
