Tata Power signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Imperial College London on October 13, 2026, to strengthen research, technology development, and knowledge exchange in the energy transition sector. This milestone partnership focuses on grid flexibility, energy storage, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and advanced energy systems. Both organizations aim to accelerate the deployment of cleaner, smarter energy solutions across global power networks.
This collaboration reinforces the deepening ties between India and the United Kingdom regarding clean energy, climate action, and technological innovation. Furthermore, the agreement directly aligns with the India-UK Vision 2035 framework, which targets grid transformation, energy storage, hydrogen, carbon capture, and AI as primary drivers for bilateral growth.
The agreement merges Tata Power’s extensive operational background in utility infrastructure with Imperial College London’s world-class research in digital systems and decarbonization. Together, the partners target several core operational priorities:
The India-UK Vision 2035 provides a comprehensive roadmap for bilateral cooperation across strategic sectors. The Tata Power–Imperial College initiative directly advances this vision by bridging academic research and industrial execution.
UK Business and Trade Secretary Jonathan Reynolds praised the alliance for converting academic research into practical, market-ready energy applications. He noted that such cooperative projects generate valuable employment opportunities and boost economic growth in both nations. Harjinder Kang, Trade Commissioner for South Asia and British Deputy High Commissioner for Western India, echoed these sentiments, highlighting how British research and Indian industrial scale jointly accelerate next-generation energy technologies.
Dr. Praveer Sinha, CEO and Managing Director of Tata Power, emphasized that solving real-world energy challenges requires deep research and innovative thinking. He highlighted the necessity of integrating next-generation grids, storage, and digital energy management tools to keep pace with rapidly changing consumer demand.
Tata Power manages an extensive energy portfolio, maintaining an operational and under-construction capacity exceeding 26 GW. The company’s deep market experience across power generation, transmission, distribution, and renewables offers an unmatched real-world testing ground for advanced decarbonization technologies.
