The central government on 30 April 2025, reconstituted the National Security Advisory Board (NSAB) and appointed former Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) chief Alok Joshi as its head. The decision of the central government comes in the wake of the terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir in which 26 tourists including one Nepalese citizen were killed.
The newly constituted NASB includes former officer of the armed forces and the civil services

The 1976 batch Haryana Cadre Indian Police Service (IPS) officer has been a Joint Director in the Intelligence Bureau, and in 2012, he was appointed as Secretary of the RAW.
Other members
The National Security Advisory Board is an executive body which has been created by an order of the Government of India.
The NSAB comprises a group of eminent national security experts who are not part of the government.
The members are appointed by the government of India.
The members come from a wide section of society - civilian as well as military, academicians and distinguished members of civil society having expertise in internal and external security, foreign affairs, defence, science and technology and economic affairs.
