External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar met Italian Defence Minister Guido Crosetto on November 2, 2023, to strengthen India-Italy defence and security cooperation. As he neared the end of his four-day trip of Portugal and Italy, EAM Jaishankar began his visit to Rome with a meeting with the Senate. The External Affairs Minister addressed the Senate's External Affairs and Defence Commission, as well as the EU Affairs Commission and the India-Italy Parliamentary Friendship Group, and met representatives of the Indian community. Jaishankar also met with his counterpart, Antonio Tajani.
India and Italy Defence Meeting: Key Points
- EAM Jaishankar recognised the importance of the Migration and Mobility Partnership in a global workplace.
- During the Senate discussion, Jaishankar commended Senators Giulio Terzi and Roberto Menia for their joint effort to strengthen bilateral ties.
- He also asked the Indian community to help celebrate the 50th anniversary of India-Portugal diplomatic ties.
- He also stated that the Porto 2021 Summit would establish the European agenda for future issues.
India-Italy Ties
- India and Italy established diplomatic relations in 1947.
