External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar chaired the Regional Conference of Ambassadors of India to ASEAN and East Asia in Singapore on 19 October 2023.
- The discussions during the conference focused on assessing the regional situation and its potential implications for India.
- External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar is on a two-day official visit to Singapore from 19 to 20 October.
Jaishankar's visit to Vietnam:
- Before his visit to Singapore, S. Jaishankar was on an official visit to Vietnam from October 15 to 18 at the invitation of Vietnamese Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son.
- During the visit, S Jaishankar met Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. During this, economic, trade, scientific and technical cooperation were discussed.
India-Singapore relations:
- India and Singapore have historical relations, which were elevated to a strategic partnership in 2015.
- The two sides held several ministerial-level talks on the sidelines of the G20 chaired by India this year, for which Singapore was invited as the guest country.
- Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong visited New Delhi to attend the G20 summit in September this year.
- During his visit, the External Affairs Minister also met his Singapore counterpart and the top leadership of the country.
- The relationship between India and Singapore is based, in particular, on shared values and vision, economic opportunities.
- Both countries are members of various international forums including the East Asia Summit, the Commonwealth of Nations, the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), and the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS).
