The International Coffee Organisation (ICO) has announced that the 5th World Coffee Conference and Expo will be held in Bengaluru, Karnataka in September this year. It is for the first time that the World Coffee Conference and Expo will be held in Asia .
The 5th World Coffee Conference and Expo will be organised by the International Coffee Organisation in association with the Coffee Board of India from 25-28 September 2023 .
Tennis player Rohan Boppana has been appointed as the brand ambassador of the 5th World Coffee Conference.
The theme of the 5th World Coffee Conference is ‘Sustainability through Circular Economy and Regenerative Agriculture’.
The International Coffee Oragnisation is an intergovernmental organisation based in London, United Kingdom . It is dedicated to promoting the coffee trade and fostering cooperation among coffee-producing and consuming nations.
Coffee was introduced in India by a sufi saint Baba Budan. He brought the coffee beans from Arabia and planted them in his garden in Chikmagalur ,Karnataka during the 17th Century.
In India coffee is mainly produced in the shaded region of Eastern and Western Ghats regions.
Karnataka is the largest coffee producing state in India followed by Kerala and Tamil Nadu . These states are called traditional coffee growing areas in India .
The other areas where coffee is grown are Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and North Eastern region. These states are called non-traditional coffee growing areas in India .
Brazil is the world’s largest producer of coffee, followed by Vietnam, Colombia and Indonesia .
India is the third largest producer of coffee in Asia after Vietnam and Indonesia .
The Coffee Board is a statutory organisation constituted under Section (4) of the Coffee Act, 1942 and functions under the administrative control of the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India.
The Board has a Central Coffee Research Institute at Balehonnur (Karnataka) .
