Grand Master Arjun Erigasi has become the second Indian chess player and 16th in the world to achieve 2800 Elo rating points in classical chess. The International Chess Federation (FIDE) announced this in a social media post on 1 November 2024.
The 21-year-old Indian is the second India after Vishwanathan Anand to achieve 2800 Elo rating points.
The 21-year-old Arjun Erigasi is currently ranked number 4 by FIDE, after Grand Master Magnus Carlsen, Grand Master Fabiano Caruana, and Grand Master Hikaru Nakamura.
This year has been fabulous for the Warangal, Telangana boy Arjun Erigaisi. He won the individual gold medal at the 45th FIDE Chess Olympiad, held in Budapest, Hungary, from 10 to 23 September 2024.
Erigasi was also instrumental in the Indian men’s team performance which won the gold at the 45h Chess Olympiad.

Indian Grand Master Nihal Sarin won the 3rd President Chess Cup after his last match with Uzbekistan’s Nodirbek Abdusattorov ended in a draw.
Nihal Sarin remained undefeated in the tournament and finished at the top with 7.5 points.
He won a prize money of USD 25,000 for his title win.
The 3rd President Cup was held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, from 20-30 November 2024.
118 Chess players from around the world participated in the President's Cup.
The other notable Indian performers at the President Cup were International Master Neelash Saha, who finished eighth with 6 points, and Grand Master Karthikeyan Murali, who finished ninth with 6 points.
