UPSC IES/ISS Recruitment 2024

The Union Public Service Commission holds a variety of tests to fill various positions, including the ECONOMIC SERVICE/INDIAN STATISTICAL SERVICE. UPSC IES/ISS Eligibility Criteria 2024

Those who want to appear for the UPSC IES/ISS Recruitment 2024 must ensure that they are eligible to apply for the examination. Before applying for the exam, candidates should review the eligibility criteria, which include parameters such as nationality, age limit, and educational qualification.

Nationality 

A candidate must be either:-

(a) a citizen of India; or 

(b) a subject of Nepal; or 

(c) a subject of Bhutan; or 

(d) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India, before the 1st January 1962, intending to permanently settle in India; or 

(e) a person of Indian origin who has migrated to India from Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Burma, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, and Ethiopia, or Vietnam: 

  • Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (b), (c), (d) & (e) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India. 
  • A candidate who can provide a certificate of eligibility to able to be admitted to the examination. Offer of appointment to such candidates will be given only after the necessary eligibility certificate is given to him/her by the Government of India.

UPSC IE/ISS Age Limit

A candidate must be at least 21 years old and under 30 years old on August 1, 2024, which means they must have been born between 02 August 1994 and 01 August 2003.

Age relaxation is also permitted for some special categories, which are listed below:-

A candidate must hold a Post-Graduate Degree in Economics/Applied Economics/Business Economics/Econometrics from a University established by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India, or other Educational Institutes established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, or a Foreign University approved by the Central Government from time to time.

Indian Statistical Service

A candidate must have a Bachelor's Degree in Statistics/Mathematical Statistics/Applied Statistics as one of the subjects, or a Master's Degree in Statistics/Mathematical Statistics/Applied Statistics from a University incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India, or other Educational Institutes established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, or a Forerunner University.

UPSC IES/ISS Physical Standards

Candidates must be physically fit according to physical standards for admission to the Indian Economic Service/Indian Statistical Service Examination, 2024 as per Regulations given in Appendix III of the rules for the Indian Economic Service/Indian Statistical Service Examination, 2024 published in Gazette of India dated 10 April 2024. 

Number of Attempts

Candidates belonging to the general category can appear for the UPSC IES/ISS examination 6 times and for OBC candidates it is 9 times. There is no limit to attempts for SC/ST candidates. The candidates willing to attend the examination must satisfy all the eligibility criteria like age, nationality, and minimum educational qualification criteria.

Apply Online for the UPSC IES/ISS Examination 

To easily apply online for the IES/ISS exam, follow the below-mentioned steps:

  1. Visit the official website of UPSC.
  2. Click on the Apply Online tab available at the right corner of the homepage.
  3. Now click on “One Time Registration (OTR) for Examinations of UPSC” and fill out your credentials carefully to complete part 1 of the application form 
  4. After completing the process your login credentials will be sent to your registered email ID.
  5. Log in with your registration number and date of birth to access Part II of the application form and complete it.
  6. Upload the scanned copies of the required documents, such as your photograph and signature.
  7. Pay the application fee set by the commission as per your category through the desired mode of payment.
  8. Read and tick the declaration checkbox after confirming the accuracy of the information provided by you in the application form.
  9. Submit the UPSC IES/ISS online form and take a printout of the final submission for your records.

UPSC IES/ISS Selection Process 2024

Candidates have to pass each stage of the examination then they will proceed to the next stage of the selection process. The selection process is divided into two parts by the commission which is explained below. 

Part I- Written Examination

The written exam includes both objective multiple-choice questions and descriptive-type papers. The common papers on General English and General Studies for both the Indian Economic Service and the Indian Statistical Service will be subjective. All subjects will have conventional (essay) question papers. Candidates should be aware that the question paper will be in English and that they will be required to write in English only.

Part II- Viva voce (Interview)

The candidate will be interviewed by a board of competent and impartial observers who will have a record of his/her career. The purpose of the interview is to determine his or her suitability for the service for which he or she has applied. The candidate will be expected to have taken an intelligent interest not only in his or her academic subjects but also in events taking place around him or her,  both within and outside his/her own State or Country as well as in modern currents of thought and in new discoveries.  The Board will pay special attention to assessing intellectual curiosity, critical powers of assimilation, judgment, alertness of mind, social cohesion, character integrity, initiative, and leadership capacity. 

UPSC IES/ISS Exam Pattern 2024

Both IES and ISS candidates will take a written examination worth 1000 marks. Candidates for the India Statistical Service must write objective and descriptive papers. Descriptive papers include both short-answer and long-answer questions. Admit Cards for the Indian Economic Service (IES) and Indian Statistical Service (ISS) exams 2024 will be released by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). Candidates who have registered for this exam can obtain their UPSC IES Admit Card 2024 from the UPSC's official website, i.e. upsconline.nic.in. It is necessary to bring the UPSC IES/ISS Admit Card, as well as a valid photo ID proof, to the examination. Follow the instructions on the UPSC IES/ISS admit card and bring it to the examination center on the scheduled date.  Steps to download the admit card from UPSC portal is given below.

Step 1: Go to the Important Links section and click on the Official link.

Step 2: Enter your Roll No./Registration ID, Birth Date, and Captcha. 

Step 3: Press the submit button.

Step 4: The UPSC IES/ISS Admit Card will be displayed on the screen.

Step 5: Verify that all of the information on it is correct and download the admit card.

Step 2: Click the IES/ISS result 2024 link on the homepage.

Step 3: The result PDF will be displayed on the screen.

Step 4: Examine and find your roll number in the result PDF using the Ctrl+F key.

FAQ

To apply for UPSC IES, a candidate must hold a Postgraduate Degree in Economics/Applied Economics/Business Economics/Econometrics from a recognized university.

A candidate who wishes to apply for the UPSC ISS post must have a Bachelor's degree in Statistics/Mathematical Statistics/Applied Statistics or a Master's degree in Statistics/Mathematical Statistics/Applied Statistics from a recognized university.

The UPSC IES/ISS 2024 application fee is Rs. 200/- (Rupees Two Hundred Only). The fee is waived for female candidates, SC/ST candidates, and PwBD candidates.

After the successful completion of Stage-II, i.e. Interview, the UPSC IES/ISS Result 2024 will be released. The commission will announce the exact date on its official website.
