RRB ALP Selection Process 2026 is divided into 4 different stages, and candidates are required to qualify/ clear all the stages to get selected as an Assistant Loco Pilot under Indian Railways. If you are one of those who are willing to appear in the Railway ALP Exam 2026 or want to prepare for the next year, then you are advised to check this section and understand the importance of each stage:-
The RRB ALP Selection Process consists of 4 stages i.e. CBT 1, CBT 2, CBAT and DV/ Medical. The final merit list for the Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) post will be prepared based on candidates’ performance in Part A of CBT 2 and the CBAT, with the prescribed weightage applied to both stages. Candidates who achieve higher combined scores will be considered for selection, subject to meeting all other eligibility requirements.
Check the complete details of the Railway ALP Recruitment Process here:-
CBT-1 will serve only as a qualifying stage to shortlist candidates for CBT-2. Selection for CBT-2 will be based on candidates’ normalised scores and merit within the same RRB they have opted for. The CBT-1 scores will be used solely for screening purposes and will not be considered while preparing the final merit list or panel.
Candidates will be shortlisted for CBT-2 on an RRB-wise and category-wise basis according to their normalised CBT-1 scores and merit ranking. The shortlisting process will consider only those candidates who have opted for the same RRB.
To qualify in the Computer-Based Aptitude Test (CBAT), candidates must pass each test battery/section individually. The test will be conducted only in English and Hindi, and no negative marking will be applied. Candidates from all categories are required to obtain a minimum T-score of 42 marks in every test battery separately to be considered qualified.
The final merit list will be prepared separately for each RRB and will include only those candidates who qualify the CBAT. For merit calculation, equal weightage will be given to Part-A of CBT-2 and CBAT scores, with each contributing 50% to the final score. Based on this combined merit, along with the candidates’ preferred zones and posts, candidates matching the number of available vacancies will be shortlisted for the Document Verification (DV) and Medical Examination stages.
