Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar inaugurated an exhibition titled “Roaring Revival: Tigers of India – An Exhibition of Charcoal Sketches and WaterColor Florals” at the All India Fine Arts and Crafts Society in New Delhi on October 20, 2023.

The Theme of the Exhibition:

  • The exhibition titled “Roaring Resurgence – Tigers of India” showcases charcoal tiger drawings and watercolor floral prints. 
  • Charumathi Nirwan is working to bring awareness among people about nature conservation through art and this is her fifth such exhibition.

Charumati Nirwan:

  • Charumathi Nirwan has been closely observing tigers and wildlife for the last 25 years, and this is reflected in her art.
  • This exhibition of Charumati Nirwan reflects the 50 years of successful journey of Project Tiger which was started in 1973.
  • Initially there were only 9 tiger reserves in Project Tiger which has now expanded to 75000 square kilometers with 54 tiger reserves. This is 2.3 percent of the total land area of India.
  • Currently 75% of the world's tigers are found in India.

Project Tiger:

  • Project Tiger is a centrally sponsored scheme of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change launched in the year 1973.
  • Under this, tigers are provided shelter in the national parks of the country.

International Tiger Day:

  • 'International Tiger Day' is celebrated every year on 29th July to raise awareness about tiger conservation.
  • Celebration of International Tiger Day was started in the year 2010 at the time of 'St. Petersburg Tiger Summit'.
  • The 'St. Petersburg Declaration' on tiger conservation was signed during the 'St. Petersburg Tiger Summit'.
  • In this, a pledge was taken by all the ‘Tiger Range Countries’ to double the number of tigers by 2022.
