President Murmu lays foundation stone of MP High Court New Building

The President of India, Droupadi Murmu on 27 September 2023 laid the foundation stone for the new building of the High Court of Madhya Pradesh at Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh.
Speaking on the occasion, the President urged every person associated with the judiciary to make efforts to provide simple, accessible and speedy justice to the general public.
She expressed concern over the large number of pending cases in the courts in India . She pointed out that about 4.5 crore cases are pending in lower courts across the country and many of these cases are pending for 20 to 30 years.
She lauded the Madhya Pradesh High Court for its special campaign” 25 DEBT’ to clear the pending cases in the district courts for years.
The 25 DEBT campaign was launched by the Madhya Pradesh High Court in October 2021.
Under the ‘25 DEBT’ campaign the judges of the District and Subordinate Courts have been told to dispose of the 25 oldest cases in their courts on a regular basis.
The High Court has administrative jurisdiction over the District and Subordinate courts within its jurisdiction .
The President appreciated the proposed special features for women in the new High Court building. The new building will have a separate Bar Room is proposed for women advocates which can also be used by the women litigants.

The High Court of Madhya Pradesh was earlier known as the Nagpur High Court of Central Provinces & Berar province . It was set up in 1936.
After the reorganisation of states in 1956 the state of Madhya Pradesh was created on November 1 ,1956. It included the areas of the erstwhile Central Provinces .
In an order issued by the President of India on 1st November 1956 the Nagpur High Court Court of Central Provinces & Berar province was renamed as the High Court of Madhya Pradesh .
The seat of the Madhya Pradesh High Court is at Jabalpur and has benches in Indore and Gwalior .
Madhya PradeshHigh Court can have a maximum of 53 Judges.
