Jind's Major Payal Chhabra Becomes the Country's First Para Commando

Major Dr. Payal Chhabra, a surgeon doctor in the Indian Army, became the first woman surgeon to join the Para Special Forces. 

• Major Payal Chhabra, a resident of the Jind district in Haryana, was awarded the Maroon Beret at a ceremony held at the Paratroopers Training School in Agra.
• She is the only Female Surgeon to achieve this feat in India.
• She holds an MBBS degree and an MS surgery degree. After completing her education, she became a senior resident doctor at the surgery department of Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College in Karnal, Haryana, in 2020.
• Her first posting was at the Army Hospital in Ambala Cantonment. She later also served at the Army Hospital in Khardungla in the Leh district of Ladakh. Currently, she is posted as a specialist surgeon at an Army hospital in Ladakh.
• She underwent training at the Paratroopers Training School in Agra to become a Para Commando.

Paratroopers Training School, Agra

Paratroopers Training School Agra is a premier training Institute of the Indian Army. 

• The School comes under the aegis of the Indian Air Force. The paratroopers of Parachute Regiment Special Forces, paramilitary forces and other forces are trained at Paratroopers Training School in Parachute jumps. 
• The school is located in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. The PTS Agra is part of the Central Air Command Indian Air Force.
• The School was established under the 50th Para Brigade in 1941 in New Delhi. After the Independence, the school was permanently shifted to Agra. Earlier, the Dakota, Hudson and Halifax Aircraft were used for Paratroopers Training.
• The School has participated in many operations of the Indian Armed Forces. The PTS supported the forces in the Indo-Pak wars of 1965 and 1971. The school had also participated in Operation Pawan and Operation Cactus (Maldives). The school was presented with the president's Colors by then-President Shankar Dayal Sharma in 1994.
