Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on 6 May 2025 and invited him to the 7th Quad summit meeting, which India will host later this year. Prime Minister Modi congratulated Prime Minister Albanese on securing a decisive mandate in the recently held Parliamentary election, where his Labor party swept back to power with a landslide victory.

Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was the proponent of the Quad. After the 2004 Tsunami in the Indian Ocean, he proposed a forum for coordinating the major maritime powers in the Indo-Pacific region to deal with such natural disasters in the future.
Quad formally came into existence in 2007.
Now, Quad is seen more as a front against China, which is very aggressive and assertive in the Indo-Pacific region.

The 6th summit meeting was hosted by former American President Joe Biden on 21 September 2024 in Delaware, United States of America.
India will host the 7th summit meeting of the leaders, though the meeting schedule has not yet been decided.
