Prime Minister Mark Carney called for an early parliamentary election in Canada after he was sworn in as the 24th Prime Minister of Canada in March 2025, after Justin Trudeau resigned.

An election was held in Canada on 28 April 2025 to elect a new 45th House of Commons of the Canadian Parliament.

The term of the House of Commons is five years.

Election was held in the shadow of American President Donald Trump’s threat to impose massive tariffs on Canadian products and his repeated call to make Canada the 51st State of the United States of America.

This helped Mark Carney, who inherited a deeply unpopular government from Justin Trudeau, as Canada rallied behind Mark Carney.

Opposition Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre and Jagmeet Singh, leader of the New Democratic Party (NDP), lost their seats.

The Liberal Party of Mark Carney won 170 seats in the 343-member House of Commons.

Results on three seats have been challenged in the court, and the results are awaited.
