71st National Film Awards 2023: Full Winners List Announced

The 71st National Film Awards for the year 2023 were announced on 1st August 2025 by the head of the juries of the various award segments. They unveiled the names of the winners of the 71st National Film Awards at a function in New Delhi.

Shah Rukh Khan (Jawan film) shared the best actor award with Vikram Massey (12th Fail), and it was the first National Award for Shah Rukh Khan.

Similarly, Rani Mukherji won her first National Film Award in the best actress category (feature film) for her performance in the film ‘Mrs. Chatterjee Vs Norway.

This year, the awards received 332 feature film entries, 115 non-feature films, 27 book entries, and 16 film critics’ submissions.

Ashutosh Gowariker was the Chairperson of the Feature Film Jury, P Sheshadri was the  Chairperson of the Non-Feature Film Jury, and Gopalkrishna Pai was the Chairperson of the Best Writing on Cinema Jury.

The films released in 2023 were considered for the awards. The winners will be facilitated later in a ceremony to be hosted by the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

Best Feature Film 

• 12th Fail (Hindi), Director: Vidhu Vinod Chopra
• Prize - Swaran Kamal and a cash prize of Rs 3 Lakhs to the producer and director each.

Best Debut Film of a Director

• Ashish Bende for Film Aatmapamphlet (Marathi)
• Prize - Swaran Kamal and a cash prize of Rs 3 Lakhs.

Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment- 

• Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (Hindi), Director Karan Johar 
• Prize - Swaran Kamal and a cash prize of Rs 3 Lakhs to the producer and director each.

Best Feature Film Promoting Social, National, and Environmental Values

• Sam Bahadur (Hindi),  Director: Meghna Gulzar 
•  Prize -Rajat Kamal and a cash prize of Rs 2 Lakhs to the producer and director each.

Best Child Film 

• Naal 2 (Marathi), Directed by Sudhakar Reddy Yakkanti 
• Prize - Swaran Kamal and a cash prize of Rs 3 Lakhs to the producer and director each.

Best Film in AVGC (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming & Comic)- 

• Hanu-Man (Telugu), Director: Prasanth Varma 
• Prize - Swaran Kamal and a cash prize of Rs 3 Lakhs to the producer and director each.

Best Direction 

• Sudipto Sen for the film The Kerala Story (Hindi)
• Prize - Swaran Kamal  and cash prize of Rs 3 lakhs

Best Actor in a Leading Role

• Shah Rukh Khan for the film Jawan (Hindi).
• Vikram Massey for film 12th Fail 
• Prize - Rajat Kamal and a cash prize of Rs 2 lakhs shared between the two.

Best Actress in a Leading Role

• Rani Mukerji for the film Mrs. Chatterjee V/s Norway (Hindi)

Best Actor in a Supporting Role 

• Vijayaraghavan for the film Pookkaalam (Malayalam),

Best Actress in a Supporting Role 

•  Urvashi for the film Ullozhukku (Malayalam),

Best Child Artist 

• Sukriti Veni Bandreddi for film Gandhi Tatha Chettu(Telugu)
• Kabir Khandare for the film Gypsy (Marathi)
• Treesha Thosar, Shrinivas Pokale & Bhargav Jagtap for film Naal 2 (Marathi)
• Prize-  Rajat Kamal  and a cash prize of Rs 2 lakhs shared between the two

Best Male Playback Singer

• PVN S Rohit for the film Baby (Premisthunna)
• Prize -  Rajat Kamal  and cash prize of Rs 2 lakhs 

Best Female Playback Singer 

• Shilpa Rao for the film Jawan (Chaliya)
• Prize -  Rajat Kamal  and cash prize of Rs 2 lakhs 

Best Music Direction 

• Music Director (Songs): G V Prakash Kumar for the film Vaathi (Tamil)
• Music Director (Background Music): Harshavardhan Rameshwar for the film Animal (Hindi)
• Prize -  Rajat Kamal and a cash prize of Rs 2 lakhs to each winner.

Other Category 

Best Non-Feature Film 

• Flowering Man (Hindi), Directed by Soumyajit Ghosh Dastidar
• Prize - Swaran Kamal and a cash prize of Rs 3 Lakhs to the producer and director each.

Award for Best Film Critic

• Utpal Datta (Assamese)
• Prize - Swaran Kamal and a cash prize of Rs one lakh.
