Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the fifth edition of SEMICON India 2026 on September 17, marking the start of three days of discussions, industry participation, and exhibits showcasing the growth of India's semiconductor and electronics sector. This flagship event is jointly organised by the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), and SEMI, the global body representing the semiconductor design and manufacturing industry.
The event will take place from September 17 to 19 at Yashobhoomi, the India International Convention & Expo Centre in New Delhi. Over the three days, the venue will host more than 600 exhibitors spread across 15,000 square metres, bringing together industry leaders, policymakers, investors, researchers, start-ups, and students on one platform to exchange ideas and build partnerships for the future of India's semiconductor journey.
The exhibition will feature six country pavilions alongside twelve state government pavilions, reflecting the global and domestic scale of participation. A large share of the exhibitors, around 300 companies, are expected to come from outside India, underlining the international interest in the country's growing semiconductor ecosystem.
This year's edition carries the theme "Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem," reflecting India's shift from simply building credibility in the sector to actually demonstrating capability across the entire semiconductor value chain, from raw materials to finished electronic systems.
A key highlight this year is the new "Sand to Silicon to Systems" Value Chain Experience, which will give visitors a complete picture of how India's semiconductor ecosystem functions, from materials and manufacturing to advanced packaging, chip design, and finished electronic systems. The event will also include a dedicated Startup Pavilion featuring around 40 emerging companies, along with an Innovation Showcase, a Startup Pitch Competition, a Student Hackathon, and a Workforce Development Pavilion aimed at highlighting career opportunities in the microelectronics field.
The global semiconductor industry is expanding rapidly on the back of artificial intelligence, electric mobility, telecommunications, and advanced computing, creating a growing need for reliable and diversified supply chains. India is positioning itself to meet this demand, backed by supportive government policies, a large skilled workforce, and rising domestic requirements. While the global semiconductor market is expected to grow well beyond its current size by the end of the decade, India's own semiconductor demand is also set to more than double in the coming years, reflecting the scale of opportunity ahead.
On the policy front, the government has approved a dozen semiconductor projects under the Semicon India Programme, with a few of these already reaching commercial production. Building on this, the next phase of the programme has also received Cabinet approval, aimed at further strengthening the ecosystem. Alongside manufacturing, support for research and design continues to grow, with modern design tools extended to hundreds of academic institutions and startups, helping nurture innovation at the grassroots level.
SEMICON India is the country's leading semiconductor conference and exhibition, organised jointly by the India Semiconductor Mission, MeitY, and SEMI. It serves as a flagship platform bringing together the global semiconductor and electronics community to drive collaboration, innovation, manufacturing, investment, and skill development, supporting India's ambition of becoming a trusted global hub for semiconductor manufacturing.
The India Semiconductor Mission works to build a strong semiconductor and display ecosystem in the country, positioning India as a global centre for electronics design and manufacturing. It acts as the nodal body responsible for implementing semiconductor and display-related schemes, working closely with government departments, industry players, and academic institutions to achieve this vision.
