India captain Shubman Gill and all-rounder Shafali Verma have won the ICC Player of the Month awards for September 2026 in the men’s and women’s categories on 13th October, 2026.
Indian players have now won both awards in the same month three times.
Gill won for his form in the ODI series against the West Indies. He scored 110 in the first ODI at Thiruvananthapuram, and India won by eight wickets. He then hit 223 off 133 balls, reported as the fastest double century, as India chased 406 and won by eight wickets. This fifth award ties him with West Indies women’s captain Hayley Matthews, who also has five. Abhishek Sharma and Sikandar Raza were the other nominees.
Shafali won her first award in November 2025, after India’s Women’s World Cup success. This time she was rewarded for her Women’s Asia Cup and Asian Games performances, where she scored 360 runs in seven T20Is at an average of 72 and a strike rate of 184.61. She also took six wickets at an average of 13 and an economy rate of 4.33. Chamari Athapaththu and Sree Charani were the other nominees.
In the UAE, Shafali was the top run-scorer with 236 runs in five innings. She made 64 in the semi-final against Bangladesh and 68 in the final against Sri Lanka, and took two wickets. India won the final and their eighth Women’s Asia Cup title, the most by any team.
At the Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan, she scored 188 runs in three innings. She made 40 not out against Japan and 100 off 49 balls against Bangladesh in the semi-final. In the final, she scored 48 as India beat Sri Lanka by 147 runs to win gold. She took four wickets, two of them in the final.
