President Droupadi Murmu Appoints Six New Governors: Full List for October 2026

President Droupadi Murmu has appointed new governors for six states. The announcement came through a Rashtrapati Bhavan communique issued on October 12, 2026, and the appointments take effect once each governor takes charge.

Four New Governors Have Been Appointed

Four people have been given the post of governor for the first time in the states below:

1. Braj Mohan Ram: Odisha
2. Dr Sudha Yadav: Karnataka
3. Dr Dhal Singh Bisen: Uttarakhand
4. Dushyant Gautam: Sikkim

Gautam takes over in Sikkim from Om Prakash Mathur, who is moving to another state.

Two Gubernatorial Transfers

Two serving governors have been moved to new states. Om Prakash Mathur, who has been Governor of Sikkim since July 27, 2024, becomes the new Governor of Kerala. Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar leaves Kerala and will take charge in Tamil Nadu. These two moves, along with Gautam’s appointment, change the leadership in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Sikkim.

What Is a Gubernatorial Transfer?

A gubernatorial transfer happens when a sitting governor is shifted to another state instead of a new person being appointed. The governor continues in office but serves a different state.
