'Nadi Utsav' Commences at IGNCA New Delhi

The fourth 'Nadi Utsav' is being organized by the National Mission on Cultural Mapping (NMCM) of IGNCA and the Janapada Sampada Division starting from September 22nd to September 24th, 2023. 

This year's 'Nadi Utsav' will be hosted in Delhi, situated on the banks of River Yamuna. 

What is Nadi Utsav?

'Nadi Utsav' is an attempt to document riverine culture, tradition, rituals and water wisdom. 

This event is an initiative to remember the connection with rivers. 

• The three-day event will include various events, including scholarly discussions with environmentalists and scholars on various subjects, screening of films, presentations by eminent artists, puppet shows, and discussions on various books.
• The fourth 'Nadi Utsav' chief guest will be Hon'ble Justice Prakash Shrivastava, Chairperson of the National Green Tribunal. 
• The Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), an institution dedicated to art and culture under the Ministry of Culture, has been organizing the 'Nadi Utsav' on a grand scale for the last few years.
• Dr Sachchidanand Joshi conceived this noble initiative to create awareness and sensitize people about their ecology and environment. 

Previous Nadi Utsav: The 'Nadi Utsav' commenced in 2018 held in Nashik (Maharashtra) city on River Godavari's banks. The second' Nadi Utsav' took place in Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh) city on the banks of river Krishna, and the third in Munger (Bihar) city on the banks of river Ganga.

• The screening will begin with the film 'Mahanadi'. Jubanashwa Mishra has directed this 60-minute film.
• 'Nadi Utsav' will have three types of exhibitions. The 'Sanjhi' exhibition will be based on 16 Ghats of the country. A photography exhibition related to river civilization and paintings made on rivers by school children of Delhi will also be organized. These paintings will reflect what school children think about rivers.

National Mission on Cultural Mapping (NMCM)

National Mission on Cultural Mapping (NMCM) is a scheme administered by the Ministry of Culture.

• It is conceptualized to develop a comprehensive database of artists, art forms and other resources gathered from cultural organizations in the Ministry of Culture, other Ministries and States on a robust IT-enabled platform.

Aim: To address the necessity of preserving the threads of rich Indian Art and Cultural Heritage, converting the vast and widespread cultural canvas of India into an objective Cultural Mapping while creating a strong "Cultural Vibrancy" throughout the nation.
