Senior IPS officer B. Srinivasan Appointed as DG of NSG

The Appointment Committee of the Union Cabinet, in a meeting held in New Delhi on 27 August 2024, has approved the appointment of senior Indian Police Officer (IPS) B Srinivasan as the new Director General of the elite counter-terrorism force National Security Guard. 

The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and was attended by the Union Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for Cooperation Amit Shah.

B Srinivasan will replace CRPF Director General Anish Dayal Singh, who was given the additional charge of the National Security Guard (NSG), following the appointment of the then NSG Director General Nalin Prabhat’s appointment as a special Director General of Police.of the  Jammu and Kashmir Police.

B. Srinivasan has been appointed as the Director General of the NSG till his date of retirement, which is 31 August 2027. 

1992 batch B Srinivasan is a Bihar Cadre IPS officer and is currently the Director of  Bihar Police Academy, Rajgir, Bihar.

About National Security Guard 

The Government of India decided to set up an elite counter terrorism force in 1984. The National Security Act was enacted in 1986  and the National Security Guard came into existence on 22 September 1986.

The NSG is one of the seven Central Armed Police Forces of the government of India.

It is under the administrative control of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.

The NSG has been modelled on the special units of the British Army, Special Air Service (SAS) and the German special force GSG-9. 

The NSG has two forces - Special Action Group and Special Ranger Group.

The Special Action Group comprises Army personnel, while the SRG comprises personnel of the Central Armed Police Forces and the State Police.
