India’s Foodgrain Production Reaches Record 357.73 MT in 2024-25

On 20 November 2025, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan released the final crop production estimate for 2024-25 in New Delhi. According to this, from 251.54 million tonnes in 2015-16, production has increased by 106 million tonnes to reach 357.73 million tonnes.

• Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan released the final crop production estimate for 2024-25 on 20 November 2025 in New Delhi, and expressed gratitude to the farmers of the country for achieving record-high foodgrain production.
• He also welcomed the encouraging increase in the production of pulses and oilseeds. The Union Minister said that India has seen the highest increase in foodgrain production in the past ten years. From 251.54 million tonnes in 2015-16, production has increased by 106 million tonnes to reach 357.73 million tonnes. This shows rapid growth in foodgrain production in India.
• The Union Minister of Agriculture said that rice production has also reached a record level of 1,501.84 lakh tonnes, which is 123.59 lakh tonnes more than last year's 1,378.25 lakh tonnes.
• Wheat has also seen a record increase, reaching 1,179.45 lakh tonnes, which is 46.53 lakh tonnes more than last year's 1,132.92 lakh tonnes.
• Moong production has increased to 42.44 lakh tonnes, soybean to 152.68 lakh tonnes, and groundnut to 119.42 lakh tonnes.
• Maize and ‘Shri Anna’ (millets) production is estimated to be 434.09 lakh tonnes and 185.92 lakh tonnes respectively, whereas last year it was 376.65 lakh tonnes and 175.72 lakh tonnes respectively.

Union Minister of Agriculture also provided crop-wise details as follows:

• Total Foodgrains – 3,577.32 lakh tonnes (record)
• Rice – 1,501.84 lakh tonnes (record)
• Wheat – 1,179.45 lakh tonnes (record)
• Nutritious/Coarse Cereals – 639.21 lakh tonnes
• Maize – 434.09 lakh tonnes
• Total Pulses – 256.83 lakh tonnes
• Shri Anna (Millets) – 185.92 lakh tonnes
• Kabuli Chana – 111.14 lakh tonnes
• Moong – 42.44 lakh tonnes
• Arhar – 36.24 lakh tonnes
• 2. Total Oilseeds – 429.89 lakh tonnes
• Soybean – 152.68 lakh tonnes (record)
• Groundnut – 119.42 lakh tonnes (record)
• Rapeseed and Mustard – 126.67 lakh tonnes
• 3. Sugarcane – 4,546.11 lakh tonnes
• 4. Cotton – 297.24 lakh bales (each 170 kg)
• 5. Jute and Mesta – 88.02 lakh bales (each 180 kg)
