National Sports Awards 2023: Winners Complete List Sport 5 min read

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports announced the National Sports Awards 2023 on 20 December 2023. These award winners will be presented the awards by the President at a special ceremony to be held on January 9, 2024 at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

  • The winners for the National Sports Awards 2023 were selected by the selection committee headed by retired Supreme Court judge Justice A.M. Khanwilkar.
  • The government has decided to confer awards on various players, coaches and institutions based on the recommendations of the Khanwilkar Committee.

Brief description of the winners of National Sports Awards 2023:

  • National Sports Awards are given every year to recognise and honour excellence in sports.
  • Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award: Awarded for brilliant and outstanding performance by a sportsperson in the field of sports over a period of the last four years. This time, two players will be honoured.
  • Arjuna Award for Outstanding Performance in Sports: Given for good performance over a period of the last four years and displaying a sense of leadership, sportsmanship and discipline. This year, 26 players will be honoured.
  • Dronacharya Award for Outstanding Coaches in Sports: Awarded to coaches with consistently excellent and commendable work in enabling athletes to excel in international events. A total of eight trainers will be awarded this year.
  • Dhyan Chand Award for Lifetime Achievement in Sports and Games: Given to honour sportspersons who have contributed to sports through their performance. And also to those who continue their cooperation in promoting sports events even after their retirement. This year, a total of 3 players will be awarded with this.
  • Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA) Trophy: Awarded to the overall top performing university in the inter-university tournament. This year, it will be awarded to a total of 3 institutions.
