Haryana’s professional boxer Mandeep Jangra won the World Boxing Federation’s super featherweight world title by beating the British boxer Conor McIntosh. The World Boxing Federation’s super featherweight world title match was held in the Cayman Islands.
The 31-year-old Indian boxer who trains under legendary American boxer Roy Jones Junior turned professional in 2021.
Before turning professional, Mandeep Jangra won a silver medal in the 2013 Asian Championship and a silver medal at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
In 2015, the government of India awarded Mandeep the Arjuna Award.
Tanushree Pandey of India won the silver medal at the 4th World Youth Soft Tennis Championship 2024. In the final of the women's under-21 event, she lost to Chiang Min Yu of Chinese Taipei 3-4.
The 4th World Youth Soft Tennis Championship is being held in Jingshan, China, from 1-6 November 2024.
Veteran Indian wicketkeeper and batsman Wriddhiman Saha has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket after the end of the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy season. Wriddhiman Saha announced his retirement in a post on social media.
Wriddhiman Saha made his test debut at Nagpur against South Africa in 2010 as a batsman after Rohit Sharma was ruled out of the match due to injury.
He emerged as India's first-choice wicketkeeper after Mahender Singh Dhoni retired in 2014. However, after the emergence of Rishab Pant, his place in the Indian side became uncertain. He last played for India in December 2021. Last year, he was released from the BCCI's central contract.
40-year-old Wriddhiman Saha has played 40 tests and nine One-Day Internationals for India. In the 40 test matches, he scored 1353 runs at an average of 29.41, with three test hundreds.
As a wicketkeeper, he made 92 catches and had 12 stumpings.
In domestic cricket, Saha made his debut for West Bengal in 2007 and has been a regular feature of the side. In 2022, he played for Tripura in domestic cricket and returned to the Bengal side in 2023.
Saha is one of the few players who played in every season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) from 2008 till 2024.
In the IPL, Saha has played for five franchises - Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Punjab Kings (PBKS), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Gujarat Titans (GT). Playing for Punjab Kings, he scored his only hundred in the IPL against the Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2014 final.
