World Number One male tennis player Jannik Sinner of Italy defeated 24 Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic of Serbia in the final to win the ATP Shanghai Masters 1000 singles title. The ATP Shanghai Master 1000 was held in the Chinese city of Shanghai from 2 to 13 October 2024. The Shanghai Master is played on a hard court.
In the final of the Shanghai Masters, played on 13 October 2024 in Shanghai, Jannik Sinner defeated Novak Djokovic 7-6 (7/4), 6-3. The defeat also ended Djokovic's quest to win his 100 ATP titles.
Only Jimmy Connors (109 titles) of the United States and Switzerland’s Roger Federer (103 titles) have won over 100 ATP titles.
Both Jimmy Connors and Rafael Nadal have retired from tennis, but Djokovic still has a chance to win his 100th ATP singles title. So far, Djokovic has won 99 ATP singles titles.
Shanghai Masters was the fourth ATP Masters title for Jannik Sinner. Sinner also became the first player to win three ATP Masters 1000 titles in one season since Rafael Nadal in 2018.
Jannik Sinner's win over Tomas Machac in the semi-final also confirmed him as the number-one ATP-ranked player for the 2024 season.
The pair of Wesley Koolhof of the Netherlands and Nikola Mektic of Croatia defeated the Argentinian pair of Maximo Gonzales and Andres Molteni 6-4,6-4 to win the doubles title of the Shanghai Masters tennis championships.
It was the 4th doubles title for Wesley Koolhof and Nikola Mektic.
ATP, or the Association of Tennis Professionals, was founded in 1972 to promote men’s professional tennis worldwide. It is the global governing body of professional men’s tennis.
It organises a series of events known as the ATP Tour every year.
The Masters 1000 is the highest-ranked tournament organised by the ATP. The top eight ranked singles and doubles pair play in the season-ending ATP final tournament.
The 2024 ATP finals will be played in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from 18-22 December 2024.
