India co-chairs the third edition of the AI Action Summit in Paris

Prime Minister Narendra Modi co-chaired the ‘AI Action Summit’ meeting in Paris, France on 11th February 2025, along with the French President Emmanual Macron. 

France and India are co-hosting the third International Summit, which is focused on artificial intelligence (AI), in Paris on February 10 and 11, 2025.

At the end of the Summit, France announced that India will host the next International Summit on Artificial Intelligence.

The Summit was attended by world leaders including American Vice-President JD Vance, Chinese Vice-Premier Zhang Guoqing, Canadian Prime Minister Justine Trudeau, and chief executive officers (CEO) of tech giants like Google, Microsoft, etc.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a two-nation tour of France and the United States of America. In the first leg of his visit, he is visiting France from 10-12 February at the invitation of French President Emmanual Macron. From Franc,e he will depart to the United States of America for a two-day visit at the invitation of the newly elected American President Donald Trump.

Background to the AI Action Summit in Paris 

The first international summit on artificial intelligence titled “Global AI Safety Summit” was organized by the United Kingdom government at Bletchley Park,in Buckinghamshire in November 2023.

The Bletchley Park is the birthplace of the digital, programmable computer in the world.

The main aim of the summit was to discuss the safety and regulation of artificial intelligence, particularly advanced AI systems.

The second Global AI Safety Summit titled’ Seoul AI Summit” was co-hosted by the South Korean and the United Kingdom government virtually on 21–22 May 2024. 

France is hosting the third meeting titled” AI Action Summit” which is also being co-chaired by India.

Aim of the AI Action Summit in Paris

The Paris Summit focus was on establishing scientific foundations, solutions, and standards for more sustainable AI that will further collective progress and which is in the public interest.

The Summit along with the AI Action Week, showcased the ecosystems that foster the development and deployment of AI. 

The three major objectives of the Paris Summit were :

• Provide access to a wide range of users for independent, safe, and reliable AI,
• Develop environment-friendly AI,
• Ensure effective and inclusive global governance of artificial intelligence.

What is Artificial Intelligence (AI)?

• Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a branch of computer science. 
• It aims to build machines that are capable of performing tasks that are done by a human being. 
• The machines that are AI-enabled simulate human abilities, like learning, problem-solving, decision-making, etc.
• Some of the common applications of AI include speech recognition, image recognition, content generation, recommendation system,s etc.
