India's women's cricket team has created history by winning their record eighth Women's Asia Cup title, defeating Sri Lanka by a huge margin in the 2026 final held in Dubai. This win also helped the team settle the score after losing to Sri Lanka in the previous final.
The Indian side went into the tournament as strong favourites and lived up to it, staying unbeaten through every stage. They topped their group after a dominant show against Pakistan, then cruised past Bangladesh in the semi-final to book their final spot. Sri Lanka, the defending champions, also arrived unbeaten, setting up a repeat of the last final. This time, though, India turned the tables convincingly, extending their lead as the most successful side in the tournament's history.
President Droupadi Murmu praised the squad for their teamwork and unbeaten run, calling them a source of inspiration for young Indians. Vice President C P Radhakrishnan also congratulated the players, highlighting their discipline and determination through the tournament. Prime Minister Narendra Modi added his wishes too, saying the team's confidence and consistency would motivate more youngsters to take up the sport.
