India to Host Inaugural ICC Women's Champions Trophy 2027

The ICC has confirmed that India will host the first-ever Women's Champions Trophy from February 14 to 28, 2027, after shifting the tournament away from Sri Lanka. The six-team T20I event will be played across two venues, Mumbai and Vadodara, with matches following a round-robin format before the top two sides meet in the final on February 28, 2027.

Two Venues, Mumbai and Vadodara, to Host the Matches

India was picked over Bangladesh and South Africa after the ICC reviewed all three countries against its standard host evaluation parameters. The Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai returns to international duty after a gap of over three years, having last held a game when India's women faced Australia in a T20I series back in December 2022. It has, however, stayed active through the Women's Premier League, hosting the tournament's opening season in 2023 and a few fixtures in 2025. Vadodara brings recent match experience too, having staged WPL games in both 2025 and 2026.

Sri Lanka Loses Hosting Rights Over Governance Concerns

Sri Lanka was stripped of hosting duties after its government stepped into the running of Sri Lanka Cricket, installing a Transformation Committee to oversee constitutional and structural reforms. Since the ICC does not recognise boards under politically appointed control, SLC representatives have been absent from ICC board meetings ever since the committee took charge. Despite losing host status, Sri Lanka's women's team still secured a spot in the tournament by finishing among the top six in the T20I rankings as of the July 6 cut-off date. This marks a setback for Sri Lanka, which was originally set to stage its second major ICC event in two years, having co-hosted the 2026 Men's T20 World Cup alongside India.
