Asian Weightlifting Championships 2026: India Wins 10 Medals

The Asian Weightlifting Championships (AWC) 2026 was organized from May 11 to 17, 2026 at the Mahatma Mandir Convention and Exhibition Center in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

India won 10 medals in this competition, including 1 silver and 9 bronze medals; while China topped the medal table with 41 medals (21 gold, 12 silver, 8 bronze).

North Korea secured second place with 30 medals (18 gold, 11 silver, 1 bronze), while Chinese Taipei secured third place with 13 medals (3 gold, 7 silver, 3 bronze).

The 2026 AWC was organized by the Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWLF) under the rules of the Asian Weightlifting Federation (AWF) and the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF).

The year 2026 event was the 54th edition of the men’s competition and the 35th edition of the women’s competition.

Indian medal winners

Gyaneshwari Yadav won the silver medal in the women’s 53 kilogram (kg) snatch event and along with this she also secured a bronze medal in the overall category.

Other bronze medal winners: Komal Kohar, Ajit Narayan, Harjinder Kaur and Sanjana won bronze medals in different categories.

History of the Asian Weightlifting Championships

It has been organized for men since the year 1969 and for women since 1988. In the year 2008, this championship provided official qualification to Asian competitors for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

The year 2026 edition was only the second time that India hosted the Asian Weightlifting Championships; earlier New Delhi hosted this event in the year 1982. India’s 16-member contingent participated in this competition held in Gandhinagar.

The year 2025 Asian Weightlifting Championships was organized from May 9 to 15, 2025 in Jiangshan, China.

The Asian Weightlifting Championships is a weightlifting championship organized by the Asian Weightlifting Federation for competitors from Asian countries.
