Amruta Pujari Wins Silver, Komal Wins Bronze at U23 World Wrestling Championships 2026

India’s women wrestlers ended their campaign at the U23 World Wrestling Championships 2026 with two medals. Amruta Pujari took silver in the 72 kg category, and Komal won bronze in the 59 kg category.

Amruta Pujari reached the 72 kg final on Saturday but lost to Ukraine’s Iryna Zablotska. Amruta was trailing 0-6 when her opponent scored a decisive pin, which ended the bout and gave Zablotska the gold. Amruta returned with the silver medal, which was India’s second medal from the women’s squad at this event.

Komal secured a bronze medal for India in the women's 59 kg weight category

Komal opened India’s women’s medal account by winning bronze in the 59kg category. This was the first medal for the Indian women’s team at these Championships.

Other Women Wrestlers

India had a chance of a third women’s medal, but it did not come.

• Sweety (53kg): She beat China’s Xiaotong Zeng 11-10 in the repechage round to reach the bronze-medal bout. There she lost to Ukraine’s Anastasiia Polska by technical superiority.
• Vaishnavi Patil: She lost 2-4 to Japan’s Haruka Kobaru in the repechage round and missed out on a medal.

Men’s Team Performance in U23 World Wrestling Championship

The Indian men’s freestyle team had a disappointing event, as none of its five wrestlers made it to the medal rounds.

• Vaibhav Patil: Lost his pre-quarterfinal bout.
• Adarsh Patil: Went out in the round of 16.
• Amit (86kg): Lost in the round of 16 to Georgia’s Tornike Samkharadze, falling while trailing 3-4.

The men’s only medal came from the Greco-Roman style, where Vishvajit More won silver in the 55kg division. With this, India has won three medals so far in the competition.
