Shaurya Bawa wins bronze at 2024 World Junior Squash Championship

Shaurya Bawa had to settle for a bronze medal after his defeat in the semifinals of the WSF World Junior Squash Championships 2024, which were played in Houston, Texas, the United States of America, on July 17, 2024.
Two-time Asian Games medallist, young Indian female Squash player Anahat Singh missed a medal by losing her quarter-final match against Nadien Elhammamy of Egypt.
This is the second medal won by an Indian male player in the World Junior Squash Championships.
Shaurya Bawa is the second Indian male player to win a medal in the World Junior Squash Championships.
Kush Kumar, the Asian Games gold medallist, was the first Indian male player to win a bronze medal in the 2014 World Junior Squash Championships edition.
The 18-year-old Shaurya Bawa lost his semi-final match against the top-seeded Egyptian Mohamed Zakaria in 41 minutes in straight games (11-5, 11-5, 11-9).
Egyptian players won both the male and female singles titles at the 2024 WSF World Junior Squash Championships.
The 17-year-old Amina Orfi won her third consecutive title by defeating fellow Egyptian Fayrouz Aboelkheir in the final. Amina Orfi had previously won the singles title in the 2022 edition in France and the 2023 edition in Australia,
Mohamad Zakaria of Egypt became the youngest male champion in the Junior World Squash Championship history. He defeated Joo Young Na of South Korea in the final. Joo Young Na was the first South Korean male player to play in the final of the Junior World Squash Championship.
The WSF World Junior Squash Championships 2024 is an annual event held at the Houston Squash Club in Houston, Texas, United States of America.
Male and female players under 19 can participate in the championships.
The World Juniors Championship includes both the Singles and Team events.
The singles event was held from 12-17 July, and the team event will take place from 18-23 July 2024.
The World Squash Federation is the governing body of Squash in the world.
